Is print media a dying trade?
As the modern age begins to take over and we all begin to turn to laptops for our source of news compared to newspapers is it making our print media a dying trade?
Why is it that
people are growing tired of picking up a newspaper? Well there are many pros
and cons of newspapers vs. Online.
Newspapers have
always been a much loved print media which has always been very popular. It was
the original source of news for many and has remained the source of news for a
long time. However, many newspapers have begun to turn their attention to the online
world as they can provide up-to-date news for readers free of charge.
Online media is a
lot more versatile than newspapers. Newspapers are big and bulky and you have
to carry them around with you to read them. Online media is available on
multiple devices for all to read freely, newspapers don't break the bank but in
the current economic climate everything does add up.
Many find other news
sources easier to read than newspaper sources. Lately Twitter has become a
source of news for many, similar to the typical News in Bites (NiBs) provided
by newspapers Twitter is easy to read on
the go.
Up-to-date news is
incredibly important in the modern age and newspapers don't allow you to see
news as it happens but the next day after it happens. Online is up-to-date
anywhere, anytime compared to print making it more accessible.
Newspapers aren't
the only source of print media, magazines have been becoming increasingly more
popular and still remain popular compared to online magazines. They are smaller
than newspapers and still fit well into a bag rather than big bulky newspapers.
Yet, for many magazines, they turn to the online world to print and show the
same content in their print magazines as what's in their online magazines.
There will always be
a fight between print and online, at the moment their is no one clear winner.
However, one thing is clear, journalism is still a popular and well respected
career path which as it expands entices more and more young people onto the job
ladder.
