Whats the role of a journalist?

Since I was young I wanted to be a writer then when I got older and watched Sex and The City I saw Carrie Bradshaw writing her column and realised that's what I wanted to do. So like any typical girl in a film, I ran out and brought a ton of magazines and began reading columnist and then developed a blog. After trying to blog a few different times I eventually made this blog and it seemed to work well. However, recently I saw a film 'Runaway Bride' in which a columnist follows the life of a young girl who consistently leaves husbands at the alter and one line which stood out to me was this:

"Not quite a novelist. But as we all know, journalism is literature in a hurry"

This quotation got me thinking, is journalism just a way of allowing writers to express their thoughts without having to spend hours writing it down? Look at blogs, they are short articles expanding the inner thoughts of someones mind. Is that possibly why they are so popular?

Yes, maybe journalists are novelists who don't have the energy to write a whole book. However, are blogger readers people who want to read novels but don't have the time? In this ever changing world with many writers trying to get published as E-Books and bloggers trying to get known are we turning into a technological world who turn to tablets rather than paper?

Personally, I am a fan of blogging and magazines, and I must admit, I do sit in bed sometimes on my Kindle reading popular magazine 'Stylist' (a free womans must have mag). It is easier than physically reading a magazine. Sometimes I do read The Guardian online as again, it is easier to read than sitting there with a huge paper. However, are we allowing this to take over the traditional world? Long gone are the days when dad would sit downstairs reading the paper whilst mum stood by the oven in a pinafore making eggs on toast for the kids all sitting around the breakfast table (then again that idea went along with the 1950s).

Although this is the modern day and technology has improved leaps and bounds over the past few years and the increase has ruined some traditional ideas. However, with the advances in technologies it allows young people - like myself - to showcase their talent online without having to wait till their old enough to get a job or work experience.
