Are fad diets the way forward?

Personally, I believe that the way to a healthy weight is through exercise, healthy eating and a lot of water. I never really believed in diets as I thought they made people change their ways to eat next to nothing, lose weight then put it all back on again when they got to their target weight.

However, after seeing close family members shift weight on different diets I was amazed. WeightWatchers and the 5:2 diet seemed to have the best results. These are both very different diet plans you must agree but have the same goal in mind, showing people how to eat healthier on a restricted allowance. Yet, when my family members got to their goal weight they started slacking, the odd peanut butter sandwich here, only dieting 6:1 days to enjoy food more. Eventually those pounds crept back up on each them.

Therefore this got me thinking, is there a way to help people lose weight without risking putting it all back on again? Yes, I feel there is. Rather than restricting yourself to eating a certain amount of calories a day just eat healthy.

So, it's all well and good saying this, it's about putting it into action. A few simple steps can be made to change a persons life and health. These are a few tips I have found recently whilst scanning the web for good diets.
  1. Eating at the table, it makes you feel more full as you don't eat as quickly due to talking to others and finding distractions. As you feel more full you don't tend to snack as much.
  2. Eating 3 solid meals a day so you get used to eating at certain times and don't feel as hungry in between meals. Eat a large breakfast and a large lunch or dinner and small lunch or dinner.
  3. Eat food off a smaller plate. If you have a small full plate you feel you're eating more and don't fill your bowl up as much.
  4. Invest in The Hairy Dieters Recipe Books, they are a god send! They allow you to eat normal food - including kebabs - without having to worry about what to eat.
  5. Workout a lot. Find some simple exercises which work for you, the key is too not do too much but enough so you feel you've done something. 8 is said to be the number of power and abundance so doing at least 3 reps of 8 to fully exert your body. Below is are two 7 minute 30 second workouts which work your full body.
