Procrastination, taking a few minutes break or a complete distraction?

With exam season looming many students are turning to their study books and revision timetables to begin the long walk to exam day. However, for some people gathering the energy to sit at a table and revise for a few hours is a struggle in itself.

A close friend of mine has confessed that she, is, a procrastinator. It basically means that when she should be sitting doing coursework she sits on YouTube and then on other social networking sites before eventually turning to a pile of coursework, sighing and beginning to work. Yet by this time it's nearly midnight and she's so tired she can barely see.

So whats the problem here? As teenagers are we being given so much work that we chose to procrastinate as we need a few minutes to ourselves. Or is there so much social media out there that it's simply distracting us in itself. On the other hand are we just not controlling ourselves and simply turning away from school work to enjoy ourselves and labelling it procrastination?

Its a confusing question and one with many answers which will come from many different people. I feel the answer, is a amalgamation of all of them. As teenagers we are being given a lot of work and chose to procrastinate as we need a few minutes of calm time inbetween studying. The influx of social media does mean that it possess a strong distraction for teenagers to turn to during school work, a common quotation many say during studying is "I'll just nip online see whats going on in the world". However, we do need to control ourselves, although we need to spend sometime relaxing we shouldn't neglect our studies to the point were the night before we are pulling our hair out panicking about the next morning.
