Once Upon a Time
So, although my passion is journalism I had this crazy idea for a short story to do with fairy tales and that. As a result I started writing a first page draft and figured I would give it a test run online:
Once upon a time, in
a far away land, their was a beautiful princess, locked up in one of tallest
towers ever. She lived in the tower all her life, due to being locked up their
by the evil witch. She waited every day and every night for her prince charming
to come to her saviour. The one day, a handsome prince on a white horse road up
to her tower and climbed up the tower to save her. He grabbed her by the hand,
took her to safety, and they both lived happily ever after.
Yeah, the only thing
is that happily ever after is actually the name of the cottage I live in with
my dad, Prince Charming, and not all the princesses live their, their isn't
enough room. You see, me and my dad have lived in once upon a time since I was 5
when my mum died. When we first moved here everyone loved my dad, he had women
swooning all over him. Then, one day when dad was walking through the forest he
came across a beautiful woman trapped in a deep sleep surrounded by dwarfs. The
dwarfs told him if he kissed her she would come back to life, he kissed her and
next thing I knew she was walking around telling me "I'm not here to
replace your mum, I'm going to be like a new mum". Then one thing led to
another and before I knew it, dad was bringing home different women almost
every night, none of them every stayed longer than one night and all were
damsels in distress.
Most mornings when I
wake up their is some beautiful girl sitting at my breakfast bar, I used to be
polite to them, smile, ask them about how they met dad and try to get along
with them. However, when I turned 16 it all got a bit old, now I'm 17 (18 in 2
days may I add) and I just can't be bothered with them anymore. They're all the
same, just here because dad is 'Prince Charming' and every girl in Once Upon a
Time wants to be with him. Dad never wants anyone though, one girl stayed for
two nights once but when dad eventually got her to leave he told her 'he would
call' and in true Prince Charming fashion, he never called.

"So, no girl
this morning dad?" I teased him as I grabbed breakfast.
"She's in the
shower" dad replied with a mouthful of fruit and fibre.
"Ah, I see, so
where did you find this one?" I didn't really care about dads girlfriends
but breakfast was usually the only time I saw him so I felt obligated to ask
him.
"She was
drowning in the river."
"Shame you
couldn't leave her their"
"Candance"
he turned to me with a tern face "this is my job sweetie, I don't get to
pick and choose the girls.
"Have you ever
thought about, I don't know becoming an accountant?"
"A what?"
dad looked at me, bewildered.
"An accountant,
its what a job people do in 'the real world'"
"Candace, how
many times do I have to tell you? The real world doesn't exist, their is no
metropolitan cities or trains or business people. This is the real world, the
one we live in"
"Dad, their is
a real world"
"Candace don't
be like this"
"Whatever"
I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl "I'll see you after school".
As I went to leave
the house I could hear footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Hi!
Hello!" I rolled my eyes to the door before turning around with a faux
smile.
"Hi" I
replied to the blonde bombshell running towards me, she was tall and slim as
most of them usually are, however, she looked older, close to 30 maybe.
"Hi! I'm Ella,
Ella Enchanted" always any original name in Once Upon a Time.
"I'm Candace,
and I'm late" I smiled at her before turning towards the door, I went to
reach for the door but she grabbed my arm before I had a chance to leave.
"I know, I'm
your dad's friend, he told me about you. What are you doing after school? Can I
take you shopping?"
"No thank you,
I doubt you'll still be here when I get home anyway." I smiled at her
before turning back to the door and leaving.
