Out with the old and in with the old?
Fashion is forever changing, we have models strutting up and down the catwalk in bizarre outfits which, quite frankly, we are not going to wear in the ‘real world’. However, the individuality of each designer putting their work out is something which we relate in our own lives. Many people like to dress individually, yet there are a few things which we keep in common. For example, kimonos are huge this season, some people wear them over a crop top and shorts, others with a plain white dress and some with a plain top and jeans. So although we do all wear similar clothing and try to keep ‘in’ with the trends, we do all wear it our own way.
An easy way if wearing clothes your way has to be going vintage! Vintage shopping is cheap, unique and amazing, you can pick up a little bargain in most charity shops and many other vintage stores. Many people have now turned to this alternative way of shopping now and with the lack of jobs and money who can blame them?
However, old style fashion isn’t the only thing interesting the younger generation, but old style everything is influential. Old style cars are huge, not just the classic Mini or Beetle but the style of an older car, tapes may not be available to purchase anymore but that doesn’t stop people buying cars with tape players in them. Advances in technology mean we can listen to an iPod whilst having a tape in the deck.
So old styles may be popular due to their cheap costs and easy availability but many combine both styles old and new giving them a modern style with a cheap price tag. There is no trick to buying vintage but don’t just buy for the sake of buying, look in charity shops and vintage stores for things you need, not necessarily things you want but won’t wear. If you can’t envision yourself in that outfit or cant think of a pair of trousers which will match the top you want to buy then don’t buy it! That’s what they would of done during the war (I’d imagine)
